St. John's GSA 2022 Pride Festival Plans

Given the success of our 2022 PIE Celebrations, we wanted to go all out for the Halifax Pride Festival!

We’ve got 10 days of events planned!

Purpose: To offer opportunities for education, inclusion and relationship building/pastoral care during the 2022 Halifax Pride Festivities.

– To provide opportunities for all ages and stages
– To acknowledge the hurt previously perpetrated (and continuing to be perpetrated) on the 2SLGBTQIA+ community

P.I.E. Worship – March 13, 2022

This year our guest speakers for worship were Sean Foreman and Andre Bernard, who will reminded us of the journey St. John’s took 15 years ago in their decision to become Affirming*.

* An “Affirming” designation is acquired after a congregation completes a process of education and inclusion about 2SLGBTQIA+ issues and needs from a faith community.  More information can be found here.

Rt. Rev. Gary Paterson

Here’s a recording of our chat with the Rt Rev Gary Paterson, the first openly gay moderator* of the United Church of Canada and the first openly gay leader of a major Christian denomination in the world.

* A “moderator” is the spiritual head of the United Church of Canada, nominated and elected by the people of the church.  The Rt Rev Gary Paterson was the moderator of the United Church of Canada from 2012-2015.
